Notre Dame Could Upend SEC’s Dominance in BCS (Orlando Sentinel)

Critics and pundits alike have been wondering if anyone can dethrone the Southeastern Conference from college football’s elite status. Six straight BCS national championships have made the SEC the envy of most in the college ranks. If the SEC is Miss Universe, then everyone else in college football is Honey Boo Boo. The Big Ten, Pac-12, Big 12 and ACC were all thought to have teams willing and able to beat an SEC squad…

Tar Heels’ Bernard Deserving of Recognition (Fox Sports Carolinas)

Giovani Bernard isn’t going to win the Heisman Trophy in December, but finding a better and more thrilling player anywhere in the nation might be akin to that whole needle-in-a-haystack deal. Bernard is that good, and he’s that underrated. Look no further than North Carolina’s 43-35 victory over NC State on Saturday in which Bernard raced 74 yards into the end zone on a punt return for the game-winning points with 13 seconds left as Exhibit A…

Maryland Out of Scholarship QBs After Another Season-Ending Injury (CBS Sports)

Maryland’s quarterback situation has gone from unlucky to bizarre, as the Terps announced the third season-ending injury to a signal-caller in a two-week span. Caleb Rowe, the true freshman who saw his first action after Perry Hills’ injury against NC State, suffered a torn ACL against Boston College on Saturday and will miss the rest of the regular season…

‘Noles Close In On Goals (Tallahassee Democrat)

With three games remaining in the regular season, the Florida State football team suddenly finds itself in position to accomplish nearly all of its preseason goals. The Seminoles will not be able to celebrate an undefeated season, and they’re still a long shot to get back into the national championship picture, but everything else is well within their sights…

History on Wolfpack’s Side When It Comes to Recovery (News & Observer)

Tom O’Brien only had one question for his N.C. State team after Saturday’s 43-35 loss at North Carolina. “Are you finished?” O’Brien said he asked his dejected players about the rest of the 2012 season. With the five-year winning streak against UNC over, plus any rational claim to the mythical “state title” with it, and the end of the most realistic shot at an Atlantic Division title, it was a valid question from the sixth-year coach…

Top-Heavy Look Suits ACC (ESPN’s ACC Blog)

The ACC’s place in the BCS standings right now is like having a layover in New Orleans — you’re close enough to see it, but not there long enough to actually enjoy the party. Get off the plane, FSU and Clemson. Stay a while. The ACC still needs some other teams to move out if they’re going to become permanent residents in the top 10 this year, but the ACC is looking good in the latest BCS standings…

  1. Can anyone ever recall a situation where a team has lost four quarterbacks on scholarship in the same year due to injury?

This is absolutely nuts for the Terps.

    • I can’t recall anything off the top of my head, but in the modern era, I doubt this has ever happened before (at least at this magnitude). If the Terps win one game with Petty, I’ll be highly impressed.
