ACC’s Top 25 Players of 2011: No. 7, David Wilson

Virginia Tech's David Wilson is Number Seven On Our Countdown of the ACC's Top 25 Players

To recap the 2011 season of ACC football, we’ll be ranking the top 25 players in the conference this year, starting at 25, and heading all the way to the number-one slot. While these rankings can surely be debated, it’s still entertaining to assemble them. And on we go…

No. 7: David Wilson, RB/Virginia Tech

Coming off a productive first two years as a collegiate, David Wilson was expected to excel as a junior in 2011. What few saw coming, however, was the dominant force he became within the Hokies’ offense. As Virginia Tech’s main cog, the team rose and fell with his performance more often than not — he never found the endzone in the team’s three losses, yet scored 10 times in their 11 victories. His 1,709 yards on the ground were tops in the ACC by over 450, and his nine rushing touchdowns were top five among conference halfbacks. With all of this individual (and team) success this season, it’s no wonder that Wilson chose to forgo his senior season and declare for the NFL Draft this spring. Given his quickness, sure hands and high character, projections currently put him in the late first- or early second-round. Based on his body of work so far, whichever team selects him will likely have a workhorse for years to come.
